Misadventour
I don’t think that’s what they actually called the tour. I think it was just the “Misadventures Tour,” which is a total missed opportunity if you ask me.
Pierce the Veil spent the summer playing their brand new album Misadventures front to back, with Movements and my favorites, I the Mighty, playing support.
My friends Biz and Cram were coming to stay with me for the show in Boston. I’m moving to San Francisco and have been slowly packing up my apartment. They didn’t realize they were actually coming to help me clear out the place, not just see I the Mighty.
Well I didn’t know that at the time either honestly. It wasn’t until Brent of I the Mighty texted me.
Brent: “Are you in Boston?”
Me: “I am!”
Brent: “We’re playing Paradise tonight!”
Me: “I know, that’s why I’m in Boston!”
Then I sent him a picture of me and the boys.
Brent: “Any chance you can house 7 transients tonight?”
Me:
Me: “But yeah, we’ll make it work.”
So ten people in my tiny one bedroom apartment. Should be fun.
And that’s how I convinced Biz and Cram to help me move out all the furniture in my apartment.
I love those boys so much.
The train on the way to the venue was intense to say the least. There was a baseball game and two concerts all happening at the same time, so the train was beyond crowded.
Verti-cuddle-puddle!
Then the line to get into the venue was crazy long. We seriously underestimated these Pierce the Veil fans. We joined the line a few blocks away from the venue.
Movements was pretty cool. They didn’t particularly stick out to me, but they were aight.
Then it was time for our band. The three of us did our best to make our way to the pit. But…where was the pit?
I let a few of my true colors through when Paramore’s “Misery Business” came on over the speakers and I was right there with the Pierce the Veil girls screaming along to every word. Biz and Cram were hardcore judging me. No shame!
And then our boys came onstage.
And we had the worst pit experience in the history of ever.
First of all, we were squished like sardines. I couldn’t move my arms, let alone dance. We were so tightly packed that the arm stuck by my side felt like it was in water, it was so hot. We attempted to mosh, but couldn’t get the crowd to budge at all. It was bad.
Then I tried to crowdsurf once. I’m sure the I the Mighty boys saw the three of us in the crowd, trying to get some kinda something going, but I always like crowdsurfing to make sure they see that we’re there.
Well, it was an alright experience until I tried to get back to Biz and Cram.
“I’m not trying to get ahead of you, I’m trying to get behind you! You just saw me crowdsurf! My friends are back there! I’m just trying to get back to them!”
The girls there for Pierce the Veil were literally a wall blocking me from moving. Like… one girl purposefully put herself in my way like she would not let me through.
It took a while, but I eventually shoved through the crowd back to where I started. It was unpleasant to say the least.
Then Cram crowdsurfed and got flipped upside down.
Before this show, I could never imagine a pit being so anti-fun. So against dancing or moshing or crowdsurfing. It was really disheartening.
My friend Shandana was upstairs texting me about how she could see the incidents going down in the crowd.
The three of us snuck out when Pierce the Veil hit the stage. We got food down the street and sat outside the venue eating and chilling, joking about the wall of Pierce the Veil fans.
We caught a little bit of their set, but not a whole lot. They weren’t who we were there for.
There was confetti at the end, so that was cool. I can always appreciate some good confetti.
Biz bought a drumhead from I the Mighty, with this beautiful inscription.
We said goodbye to the band, assuming we were gonna see them all again soon. We were a bit mistaken.
They couldn’t find anywhere to park the van near my apartment (thanks, Boston), so Brent ended up being the only one to crash with us. It worked out alright in the end, since I had my bed, a futon, and two air mattresses. With only four of us, no one had to share.
But at 2am, we decided to be degenerates and went out looking for food. What else are we gonna do at 2am?
The next morning we delivered Brent back to the van so they could head off to New York for their next show at Irving Plaza. Biz and I said goodbye to Cram as he was heading home to New Hampshire, and we set off on our own roadtripping to New York.
We met up with the rest of the NYC crew, Kailyn and Fenn and Niki and Marion and Kryzia and Corey. And we got a nice surprise at Irving by Jason, who had told us he wouldn’t be at the show. There’s my pit crew.
The boys paid a woman who was selling VIP seats to bring us into the pit rather than to the VIP section. Amazingly enough it worked.
The pit at Irving was not nearly as sardined as Boston was, so the experience was about a million times better. We got a good mosh pit going, and even a bunch of random people joined it. There was plenty of space to dance and mosh, and it was obvious even to people who didn’t know I the Mighty previously that this was where the party was.
Cue my crew screaming that intro at the top of our lungs, surrounded by people who did not understand. Ugh chills.
My thought process watching this video for the first time:
♥♠♥ Huh, there’s that one group of people freaking out…
♠♥♠ Wait that kinda looks like Biz’s hair…
♥♠♥ And that kinda looks like my hair!
♠♥♠ WAIT. THAT’S MY GROUP OF PEOPLE FREAKING OUT.
♥♠♥ Aaaaaand there goes a crowdsurfing Lindsay.
There was a lot of crowdsurfing, and some kissing in the pit. I got flipped upside down crowdsurfing once this time. It’s gonna happen eventually, I guess.
We went downstairs to hang and chat during Pierce the Veil. Skipping their set yet again it seems. Then when the show was over, we all headed out to our customary post-show philly cheesesteak place with the band, where Fenn got to share some of his best stories with I the Mighty.
And I got to stuff my face.
New York I the Mighty shows are always my favorite.
I really really love this band both as musicians and people.
It’s always a good time. I cannot recommend checking them out enough. For further recommendation? I’d say start with Satori.
