New Albums Recap: February
There never seems to a shortage of good new music, and that makes it hard to keep up with sometimes. For those of you in that position, we’ve made it a bit easier. Here are ten albums that just dropped in February.
The 1975
I Like It When You Sleep, For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It
Interscope Records
The best description I have heard of the 1975’s new album came from Julia Choquette, Untitled Rock Mag’s newest (soon-to-be) contributor: “It sounds like a drug induced haze that you sleepwalk through.”
I Like it When You Sleep… dropped on February 26.
Simple Plan
Taking One For The Team
Atlantic Records
Simple Plan was one of my favorite bands back in middle school (circa 2004). It’s been five years since the last time they released an album, so it’s pretty exciting to finally be hearing new music from them. Their sound hasn’t changed much and twelve-year-old Lindsay is pleased.
Taking One For the Team dropped on February 19.
Say Anything
I Don’t Think It Is
Equal Vision Records
I Don’t Think It Is dropped with no warning on February 5 along with frontman Max Bemis’s statement: “My team and I decided to forego the dying art of the lead‐up and share our new record I Don’t Think It Is with you, right now, with no warning. Why? Obvious. I want to be like Bey. Not‐really‐kidding aside, I’ve become a bit weary of doing the same song and dance leading up to the actual endgame, people actually listening to something. It also seems to fit with the core of this record: me destroying any notion of feeling blasé about music.”
Hands Like Houses
Dissonants
Rise Records
Australian band Hands Like Houses toured America for their newest album Dissonants last fall, and they’ll be hitting the UK in late May. Dissonants was officially released on February 26.
SWMRS
Drive North
Uncool Records
The band formerly known as Emily’s Army (and briefly known as Swimmers) released their first full-length album under the name SWMRS, Drive North, on February 12. The record was produced by FIDLAR frontman Zac Carper.
St. Ranger
Leaves L.A.
Shawn Harris, frontman of 2000’s pop-punk band the Matches, released a solo album under the name St. Ranger on February 8, called Leaves L.A.
Farro
Walkways
Similarly, Josh Farro, best known as the lead guitarist of Paramore until leaving the band in 2010, released a solo album called Walkways on February 5.
Made for Broadway
Life Lessons
Pop-punk band Made For Broadway hailing from South Africa released their album Life Lessons on February 12.
Like Pacific
Distant Like You Asked
Pure Noise Records
Like Pacific released their debut album Distant Like You Asked on February 19.
Ra Ra Riot
Need Your Light
Barsuk Records
Indie band Ra Ra Riot released their fourth studio album Need Your Light on February 19.
