World Inferno + Choking Victim
I the Mighty played Market Hotel a few years ago, and while I don’t remember exactly why everyone hated that venue, everyone hated that venue. Well now I’ve also seen World Inferno at Market Hotel, opening for Choking Victim, a side project of Leftover Crack.
It’s weird that now I live within walking distance when the last time I was at this venue I flew from California. So I walked through Brooklyn to get there.
I got there just a little before Inferno went on, so I talked to Doug for a minute, then decided to go look for food. But of course, I didn’t give myself enough time for food, so I ended up buying chicken and bringing it back to the venue to stuff my face by merch before running into the pit. Kevin joked with me that I should just throw the chicken at people during the show.
Apparently Market Hotel got their liquor license back since the I the Mighty show. We didn’t have to drink tiny beers in a back room. Although I still didn’t actually drink. But there was a whole bar there this time.
But I did notice the toilet paper holder is jank af.
The crowd was pretty rough (and looked significantly more punk than normal) because most people were there predominantly for Choking Victim, so they were like PUNK punk. Whitney got a lot of compliments for their unique and colorful outfit because they also forgot it was a different than normal kinda crowd.
The venue was HOT. Like really really really hot. At one point I was trying to get the sweat off my face and someone rammed into me and made me punch myself in the eye lolllll
I definitely lost some skin on my legs and got covered in bruises. It was very rough, but that’s also a sign of a good night.
There are two giant poles in the middle of the venue, which honestly sucks and makes it very difficult for moshing. We still did it obviously, but I got stuck behind one at one point.
Pretty sure I sweated out half my body weight from the heat and all the dancing. There’s hardly any air conditioning there. Love it.
The human pyramid during “Me V Angry Mob” was four layers high. I’d never seen it that high, and someone had to literally pick me up to put me on top. It was AWESOME. Then later someone asked me if I was the one on top. Yes, yes I was.
I don’t remember what all they played, but they definitely played “Second Chance Saloon” and I was VERY happy about that and danced a lot.
After Inferno, a guy bought me a full sized water bottle even though the venue also had free water because I’m a “blue eyed punk rock girl” so that was cool.
I don’t actually know any Choking Victim, but I love Leftover Crack, so I stayed and watched them anyway. It was fun, but I was too tired and didn’t care enough to go back in the pit again.
I’m pretty sure at one point Stza said he was gonna play “Soon We’ll Be Dead,” but Jack had already left. Boooo I love that song. Oh well.
